Zimbabwe’s First eSports event for 2024: Gamers Meet 1

Hey, How are you doing?

We’re having the first OTAKUKON Gamers meet of 2024 this weekend on the 28th of January at Harare Sports Club (Tag Rugby Trust) and wanted to send out a formal invite since you registered for OTAKUKON eSports. Last year we set up and hosted the OTAKUKON eSports Winter Invitational, an event meant to let gamers meet up and enjoy a full day of fun and gaming. We’re back now, setting up the first esports event for 2024 and looking to ensure that we put Zimbabwe eSports on the map.

As a first event it will likely be quite chilled but we really want to duplicate what we were able to do the last time; a full(ish) day of gaming, hanging out and fun. Given that this is at Harare Sports Club we are hoping accessibility is easier but we will likely move around a few venues until we find a ‘Home’. Throughout this year we will likely go through several different venues until we find a working location that benefits the community as a whole. We will likely stream some games to our OTAKUKON eSports and OTAKUKON Anime Festival Twitch Accounts so look out for that.

The event starts at 12 and we should be done by 4:50pm. Entry fee is $3 and it will cover access to at least two titles. While we are still confirming all the titles we will have on Sunday we have confirmed:

  1. Tekken 7
  2. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
  3. eFootball (preseason games and registration for the chance to represent Zimbabwe in Morocco at the IESF Africa Qualifiers)
While held back by access to new gen consoles and accessories, we still hope we can get there.

We are yet to confirm Mortal Kombat 11 and Street Fighter 6 for the 28th of January. We would also like over the next year to get to a point where you have access to newer titles like MK1 and Tekken 8, and NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM Connections. Is a crowdfunded ESports community possible? Maybe.

This year our goal is to create a strong gaming community among OTAKUKON attendees. Hopefully if our community is strong enough we can build shared resources for us to improve gaming and access to the latest titles and consoles. There’s a lot to be done but we hope we can do it together.

Thank you for your interest in Otakukon eSports. We hope to see you this coming Sunday.

You can follow our WhatsApp channel for updates related to eSports and gaming.
