Good news, Harare! Nakamarket, THE pop culture event in Zimbabwe’s favourite pop is back for its third edition. Nakamarket 2026 takes place on Sunday, 6 December, at Moto Republik in Harare. So clear your calendar, rally your crew, and get ready for a full day of festival fun. This was announced by Otaku Konnect on their social media platforms together with an amazing visual illustrated by Bill Masuku with design collaboration with Donald Chasi.
A Look Back at Last Year’s Nakamarket
Last year, Nakamarket was an insanely fun day out. Otaku Konnect partnered with JICA Zimbabwe and the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs). Together, we brought a true Japanese matsuri (festival) vibe to the whole event. Traditional Japanese games kept everyone busy, while exciting activities filled every corner. As a result, the venue felt like a summer evening in Japan. The teams working the event also wore happi, made from traditional Zimbabwean fabric, creating the ultimate Zimbabwe x Japan cultural collaboration.
Of course, that set a high bar. However, we’re ready to raise it. With over 700 people in attendance at Nakamarket 2025, the goal is to make 2026 an even bigger year! After the success of Otakukon Anime Festival (OKAF) 2026, Otaku Konnect aims to close 2026 with a bang.
What to Expect at Nakamarket 2026
We’re still finalising this year’s activities and collaborations. Therefore, keep an eye out for announcements over the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s what we can confirm.
Nakamarket 2026 will follow the summer festival theme once again. In addition, the day will feature:
- A wide range of vendors selling merch, art, collectibles and crafts – Over 30 different vendors
- Outdoor games to challenge your friends and family
- Several food stalls, because what’s a summer fest without food? at least 5 food vendors providing variety.
- Fun activities for the whole family
A Pop Culture Event Rooted in Japanese Fandom
Like every Otaku Konnect event, Nakamarket celebrates fans of Japanese pop culture. First and foremost, that means anime, manga, J-pop and gaming. This community has always been the heart of everything we do. Because of that, you’ll feel the love for Japanese culture throughout the day.
Zimbabwe’s Home for Every Fandom
At the same time, Nakamarket is much bigger than one fandom. In fact, it’s Zimbabwe’s ultimate pop culture expo. Here, every form of pop culture gets its chance to shine. Comics, cosplay, film, music, art and games all have a place. So whether you’re a seasoned otaku or simply curious, you’ll find your people here.
Families are welcome too. Kids and parents alike can enjoy the games, food and activities together.
